To wear or not to wear: that is the question?

As labor day is approaching, the question of wearing white after labor day is over is questionable? The rule first came about as “Only wear white shoes between Memorial Day and Labor Day.” This only applied to white pumps and white dress shoes. There where two shoes that were exempt from this “rule”, white tennis shoes and off-white boots. Of course winter white was excepted for any bride that choose to get married during that season. The logic and the only logic to this rule had to do with temperature.  White reflects light and heat, wearing white would make you cooler in winter, and thus should be avoided. The point of this rule is to wear summer fashions during summer months.

So what are those who don’t have many cool temperatures around the world suppose to do? There is no harm in them wearing a white outfit from head-to-toe. The fact that many pay this rule no attention, confuses people and leaves them to believe this is just an old rule. Designers today, design pieces from crisp white outfits to white shoes that are meant to be worn in the fall/winter. White after labor day is slowly but surely breaking free from it’s box.

Now that more and more people are fashion conscious, rules were made to be broken. Be BOLD, CREATIVE, and INNOVATIVEWHITE is allowed after labor day. The rule is outdated!

Tipping the Scale

Obesity is actually a disease where excess body fat has grown to such an extent that health may possibly be negatively affected. Obesity can cause many health problems. Heart attacks and breathing failure are very common for obese people. Eating healthier and staying active with physical activity are two very important methods for toning up and staying healthier. “The U.S. is not treating the obesity crisis with the seriousness it deserves,” said Jeff Levi. Obesity rates have recently risen in 37 states. More than 25% of adults are now obese in 28 states, up from 19 states last year. Obesity can also cause self depression which can lead to numerous problems with grades, mental and physical activity, friendships, health, and etc. There are too many healthy foods and workout areas to sit around and be lazy.

Making Long Distance Love Work

August 19, 2008 Author: Allison

Being in a long distance relationship is definitely not easy! It may be challenging and difficult, but it’s not impossible! A long distance relationship has just as much chance of succeeding as any other relationship.

There are many tips to helping a long distance relationship work.

  • Decide how much commitment you are willing to give and receive.
  • Trust is a MUST.
  • Never accuse your partner of cheating unless you know it for a fact.
  • Planning visits and reunions keep the relationship alive.
  • Communicate in some way every day. Maintaining connection is important.
  • Stay busy. Enjoying free time with family or friends will preoccupy your mind.
  • Pursue common interests such as watching the same tv show at the same time and discuss it afterwards.
  • Do not be controlling. Allow your partner to venture and learn new things without being angry.
  • Discuss your future together. Letting each other know how interested you are in being together is a plus.

With the right amount of interest and effort on both parts, a long distance relationship will survive. After all, distance is just a phone call away!

Bigfoot Found?

August 16, 2008 Author: Katie

The overgrown ape-like creature has been found! Supposedly. Two hikers in Georgia claim to have stumbled upon Big Foot’s remains while hiking in the northern woods of the state about two weeks ago. The pair put Sasquatch on ice and had planned to prove their claim with DNA test results to be released in a press conference yesterday, Friday, August 15.

All the hype would prove to be a hoax. The DNA tests concluded that one of the two samples taken came from a human, and the other was 96% from an opossum.

Nice try, guys. But it seems that BIG FOOT will remain illusive along with Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and cheap gas!

Cheerleading: a sport?

August 14, 2008 Author: Allison

In a dictionary you can find the word “sport” defined as a “physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.” It is the last part of the definition “engaged in competitively” that makes considering cheerleading a sport difficult. But the defintion says “often” engaged in competitiveness. Also, region and state competitions are very popular among most squads; making cheerleading a sport.

Squads that show up on Friday nights at football games and practice twice a week are not so much athletes. However, squads that condition, lift weights, cheer at games, practice multiple times a week, and compete are definite athletes. Cheerleaders have to sweat and work as a team just like football, basketball, and baseball players; except with less recognition.  Stunting and tumbling are just as dangerous as tackling but minus the shoulder pads and helmet!

Out with the LOW, and in with the HIGH!

August 14, 2008 Author: Allison

Like a boomerang, Pants from the past have come back!  What used to be thought of as “mom” pants have now become the “everybody” pants.  The look has changed from skinny leg, low rise to wide legged, high waisted.

The high waisted pants give the body a slender look leaving more of the body to the imagination.
“They make your legs look a mile long and hold in any kind of gut you might have,” says Grey Ant designer Grant Krejecki.   Also, no more worry of cracks or underwear showing.

Many celebrities love the high waisted style. High-waisted pants are great on ladies with flat tummies, long torsos and hourglass shapes. They look best with fitted or tucked in tops.  Although any shape can use this high waisted style.
